Glossary of English/German Motoring Terms..

After writing about my driving escapades yesterday I found this in my file and thought it might come in handy if you're travelling to Germany.................

For years now I have been trying to convince people that "volkswagen" is actually German for "lawnmower engine." My friends who owned VW Bugs were not amused.

This was hilarious! And I felt my dad laughing right along with me. He would have busted a gut over those. He lived in Germany for a while and used to be a Volkswagon mechanic. He was a lifelong car enthusiast and a big appreciator of silly soundalike jokes like these. Thanks so much for posting them!

Driving is bad enough here in the U.S. so I don't think I'd want to try the Autobahn but these are some great terms! I especially liked the term for Near Accident! Very funny!

Love these! When I was a kid and we lived in Germany my sister and I always sniggered at the the Ausfahrt signs and loved calling our grandad a Grossvater.
