CRASH!...........

I've been at home all day today with a thumping headache and feeling very shaky due to having a car crash on my way to work this morning.    No-one was hurt, thank goodness, but it sure as hell shook me up.   Neither car is anywhere near as bad as the one above but there is damage to both.

I was driving along minding my own business on an A road when suddenly a taxi, stopped at the kerbside, decided to do a U-turn right in front of me, I couldn't miss him.    The driver insisted it was my fault because I'd hit him ,despite the fact that I had right of way and he cut straight across the front of me.    As we were swapping details another car appeared, a man got out saying he had seen everything and would give me his details and be a witness.  Thank goodness he did.   When he heard the taxi driver blaming me he shouted at him "It was your fault, you did a U-turn in front of her she could hardly miss you!" - Bless him.

Thankfully my car is driveable so I came home, I really didn't feel I could cope at work as I was shaking quite a bit.      I've contacted my insurance company and someone is coming to assess the damage on my car on Thursday.  My insurance company is happy that it wasn't my fault, so I won't have to pay any excess and I have protected no claims bonus so that's not an issue.

I am annoyed with the taxi driver though. Evidently he went to see a solicitor, she telephoned me to ask what happened as he said he was turning right and I came up on the inside and hit his car!  I'd like to know how he explained how I managed to hit his car with my passenger side wing on his driver side rear door if I came up on the inside!

I telephoned my witness to thank him for stopping and spoke to his wife who said she was also a witness and I shouldn't worry because they would back me up.     She also said that two young women stopped  and gave their details to my witness, so it looks like the taxi driver is up the creek with his lies.

Anyway the good thing is no-one was hurt, though I have a feeling the taxi driver may try to claim some compensation.   If he does, unfortunately for him it will have to come from his own insurance not mine.

If you've got a minute why not look at my previous post and vote for the entrants for the Great Imagination Award - I'm sure they'll appreciate it.

Glad you are just shaken even though that is horrible enough.

I'm sure the taxi guy will try but with all your witnesses that will see him with egg on his face.

Stay home - drink tea - or even something stronger and try to get rid of the shakes.

God, thats awful. I'm so glad you're ok. Now have a drink and relax and thank GOD it wasn't any worse. xxx

I hope that the cabbie gets canned.

Good Lord, when I first looked at that picture I thought it was your car and I was thinking "How can she only have a headache?!?" So glad that it wasn't that bad though that taxi driver sounds like a real Class A act. What a jerk. Hopefully he does try to take you to court and your witnesses shout him right down.

Take it easy and nurse your poor head today. Like Elaine said, have a drink - or two!

What a horrible thing to happen - compounded by the taxi driver being an arsehole.

I'm glad to hear there were no serious injuries and that you had witnesses that bothered to stop.

A few years ago I was in Paris at traffic lights at a huge crossing on a bridge. I was stationary and a car on my left was edging forward (legally) but the driver (a woman, I'm afraid to report!) wasn't looking and bumped into my car. Even at such a slow speed my driver's door was bashed in. I indicated to her where we could park so we could sort out details and she nodded. And then she drove off never to be seen again.

I was left with a damaged door and a big bill. C'est la vie!

Have yourself a soothing glass of wine or two.

You may be achy for a day or two -- partially sudden decceleration and partially adrenaline let-down. Just be good to yourself.

And...in the vein we've been talking about on Raven's site, pray for that Taxi driver -- it will take away his power to continue to hurt you.

I hope you feel better very soon. Thankful you weren't in that car at the top of your post!

The shaking has subsided now aims with cups of tea. :)

I am thanking my guardian angel that it wasn't any worse Laney, no-one was hurt and metal can be fixed. :)

The taxi driver will have a big excess to pay no doubt Mike and will lose work whilst his car is off the road so hopefully it will make him more careful in the future.

I doubt it will go to court Linda. I'm OK now apart from a headache and I imagine that will have gone after a good night's sleep. x

Oh Crikey Dumdad what happened to you is a worse case scenario. At least the cabbie stopped and his details checked out. :0

Yes indeed Reston Friends, it could have been so much worse. The Cabbie is already out of my mind, he can't hurt me anymore. :)

I feel OK Bee really and hopefully there will be no after effects tomorrow. If there are I'll go to the docs and put in a claim. ;) Thanks for your concern m'deario. xx

i bam so glad you are ok AND you have witnesses! When a lorry drove into me in a traffic jam (I was stationary!)he claimed I drove into HIM - despite the fact my car had scrape marks all down the side of it!)but no-one would be a witness; the jam cleared just as the accident happened and everyone rushed off on their way! I ended up having the claim settled 50/50 which is what they do when both parties tell different stories and there are no witnesses! Can you tell I'm still angry???LOL
Big hugs and hope you feel ok.

I'm so glad my friend that you were not hurt, well for that matter, any one was hurt, but I'd love to go thump that taxi cab driver for lying like he is. Thank goodness for your witnesses. That's great that you have them. You will most certainly come out on the winning side of this I'm sure of it. AGain, I'm glad you were only shaken and not hurt. That warms my heart. Go give 'em hell :)

Akelamalu said...

Oh Blimey CG what rotten luck, no wonder you're still angry. A lorry took a chunk out of my bumper whilst I was waiting to turn right at some traffic lights a few years ago and just carried on going. Luckily a van driver behind him chased him and made him stop until I got there. I'm so glad for the 'Knights' that seem to be there when I need them. :)

Daryl said...

what a dolt. Doesnt he know the photos will prove you right even without the witnesses?

Susan at Stony River said...

Oh no! I'm so glad you're not hurt, and are insured, and that you've got witnesses standing by you. It could have been so much worse.

Be good to yourself and good luck with everything that comes next. Does this look like a repair coming or a new car? (I'm guessing/hoping that's NOT your car in the photo?! Yikes!)

OMGoodness for a moment there I thought the photo was your car! I am glad you are ok but the cheek of that taxi driver! You weren't in a seaside resort by any chance? One with a tower? The taxi drivers there think they own the road!

I am glad you got witnesses and hope you get it all sorted out soon. Take care of yourself honey!

ake-i'm glad you're ok. car accidents do get ya a little shaky. i have been in a few, but only one big one. none of which were my fault. some moron decided to make a left turn about 10 ft in front of me on 45mph road. no way i was going to avoid him. i looked up after we hit & noticed he was gone. i was pissed. he was in the parking lot of his apartment complex. at least you have ins and witness who can vouch for you. i had witnesses, but unfortunately, other driver had no ins & drove on suspended driver's license. the bank my dad had the loan w for the car never told him that they took the ins off after it got under 2k. the car ended being totaled and not replaced :-/

i ended up w a trip in an ambulance. so much fun haha have you gone to the doctor to get checked out??

Akelamula, I am so thankful that you are alright. Your car looks pretty bad. I am glad that witnesses are backing up your story.

I hope that you will feel better tomorrow and that you don't get stowed up.

Cheers, my friend and have a glass of wine.

So glad to hear that you were not hurt, nor anyone else. That is enough to shake you up for sure. It's no wonder your hands were shaking! I'm glad you took the day off and also that there were witnesses. Thank Heaven for that - although it sounds like the taxi driver had fish for brains trying to make a story like that fly.

Take care, my friend. Tomorrow you might be a bit more sore than you realize. Did you go to the doctor?
Seriously. Take care.

Sending prayers and hugs to you.

I'm glad you're ok. I remember being shaky for a few days after I was in an accident in February.

Don't worry too much. The damage to both vehicles will clearly show how the accident happened. And you have witnesses. It's going to be ok.

Take it easy for a few days.

I dare say he is concerned for his job. Over here, people who drive for a living(truck drivers, cabbies, salespeople) usually are required to carry more insurance- and if convicted of a road incident, usually end up on probation or worse.
Glad you're OK, thank God!

It does shake you up,
but time will heal you. pamper

OOHH. I hate going through things like this. I was auditing a school once and a "little old man" rammed my parked car. Then left the scene. Come to find out he was the retired principal. I had the police run him down at the local cafe'. Yep, his insurance paid for it. But the whole school was going to lie and say he was just some "little old man." Indeed! D

Oh, my dear! I am so glad you are okay. I hope that you have recovered from your shock by now and that you haven't suffered any injuries. XO

PS Glad that wasn't your car!

Akelamalu said...

I'm thankful for the witnesses Thom, as the taxi driver is lying through his teeth. The main thing is no-one was hurt - for that I'm grateful. :)

There's no photos Daryl and I could kick myself for not taking any but I was so shocked. Anyway the insurance companies will be able to tell he's lying because all the damage would have been on the other side of the each car if he was telling the truth.

You're so right Susan, it could have been so much worse! It's definitely a repair, not a new car. :)

Thankyou Mama Zen :)

Not in Blackpool Thumbelina but taxi drivers here think they own the road too! Thanks for your concern m'dear. x

Yes I'm fine Spiky, only the car is bruised. :) My witness was mad as hell with the taxi driver!

I suppose they lie because it could cost them their job Dr. John but it doesn't make it right does it? :(

That's sounds good Cloudia - dodging a bullet and being statistically safer - thanks m'deario and for the Reiki. xx

The police here won't attend RTAs unless someone is hurt Quilly, so there was no point in phoning them. There isn't usually a problem as long as you get all details and have a witness.

Oh what rotten luck you had Ciara. That's the worst
case scenario the other party not having insurance! :0

Thankfully that's not my car Pam the damage is much less. :)

The driver definitely had fish for brains trying the manoevre he did Mimi. I haven't been to the docs because I haven't suffered anyh ill effects at all, thank goodness. x

Thanks for the healing energy SAW I appreciate it. x

Sorry to give you a fright Ron, thanks for the Reiki m'dear. xx

A witness is always a good thing eh Melli, thanks for the prayers. :)

Yep, thank goodness for the witness Julia! :)

I was surprise that I felt OK the day after and was able to go to work Trav, but thankful it was so. I'm not worried about the outcome, my car will be fixed and no-one was hurts so that's good. :)

You're so right Mrs. N. with a witness the truth will out. :)

Car crashes certainly make you feel shaky Flowerpot, thankfully the feeling didn't last too long.

Thanks G-man and yes I think right is on my side. :)

Yes it does take time and effort to sort these things out Caron. I have to applaud my insurance company though they made it quite painless.

I think the taxi driver was concerned that his cab will be off the road for repairs meaning he will be losing income and was hoping to claim some compensation Buff.

Aw thanks for your concern Marmie, sorry if it gave you a scare hon. I was so annoyed at him for trying to blame me and going to a solicitor telling a pack of lies!

Oh Indigo what a terrible thing to happen to you, that was a bad smash! Thankfully mine was nothing compared to yours.

I don't understand how people can just drive off from an accident Donnetta, it must be a panic reaction.

Forget about you Diana Joy> Never! Thanks for your kind thoughts m'dear. x

I'm absolutely fine JAPRA and I'm glad that's not my car too! :)

I am so glad you are okay, though shaken. The taxi driver may lose his job. I had a small semi truck back into me at an intersection and blame me! Helloooooo. I was at a red light sitting there and he backed up!

I hate car accidents. They always leave me thinking of what could have been...

Just noticed this post and I am so sorry that you had this awful thing happen to you.
A taxi driver from Hell by the sound of it & what a creep to try & blame you. Pleased you got a witness.
The car seems a right mess. Glad you weren't hurt.

That cab driver--how obnoxious! I'm so glad you have witnesses, but I would think the officer could tell by the position of the vehicles that it wasn't your fault.

Yes thankfully no-one was hurt Maggie and people were kind enough to stop as be witnesses. That's not a photo of my car thank goodness, the damage was much less than that. :)

Thanks San. The police didn't attend the accident - they will only come out to an RTA if people are hurt so I am reliant on my witnesses to prove what happened. I'm sure it will be OK though. :)

Thanks Odat, I hope you'll get back into flash fiction again - I missed you.:)
