My Project....

Some of you may remember in my post "How I started blogging" I said that I was considering starting another blog to publish My Grandmother's biography, which was written by my father a few years ago. Well your enthusiasm spurred me on so that's what I've been working on and it is now done.

Despite not having very much education, for reasons you will come to understand if you read it, my Dad has managed to write 27,394 words about his beloved mother.

Dad promised KIT (his mother) that one day he would write her story and at the age of 70 he did just that. I typed it up for him, printed it off and sent it to a few publishers, unfortunately they returned them saying that it was too short.

He is now 83 and I promised him I would publish KIT's story for the world to read so, as I failed with the publishers, I have now put it on the web where it is not dependent on people buying it, it can be read by the whole world.
I have called it KIT - A Biography Of My Mother by J.H. Dawson - it is a testament to my grandmother and my wonderful father, her youngest son.
So if you would like to read it you can find it here.

If you read it, please feel free to leave any comments in the guest book there or here on this post.

I hope you enjoy it.

Have bookmarked it...took a quick look (though not read any of it yet) and it is wonderful the way you have set it out. What a great tribute. Such a shame you can't get it published....I expect it would cost a lot to have a few private copies published to pass down to the family.

Oh thanks Ruth. I did print out copies for the family years ago when I first typed it up. Dad wasn't interested in making money or anything by getting it published he just wanted people to read about KIT.

I'll definitely be having a look.

Go to lulu.com, and check it out. You can publish as little as 1 book...it would be great to have it in proper form for him, with a glossy cover and his name on the front, next tohis mother's picture. It costs next to nothing, too...under £20.

Have book marked it, I need to take my time and read it in peace (may take it in hospital with me). It looks like you have yet again amazed me with your skills, 10 out of 10 for presentation.

Internet published!! The wave of the future....or the present....or something...

Next time don't let publishers push you around. A good book is a good book

I'm really glad you wrote this up here Akelamalu - I've read the first chapter, and am looking forward to reading more later!

What a dramatic start to Kit's life... it makes for good reading ... I can't wait to see how the story/ her life develops

(Would it be an idea to put a link at the bottom of each page to the next one, so one didn't have to scroll back to the top? just a thought)

Excellent web pages too! You've done a great job with the publishing... your dad must be well proud of you! (has he seen it?)

The strange thing is, though I've heard these stories with my own ears, and I read the book when it was first typed, it means so much more now that I have my own and KIT lives on through another generation of us.

Thanks for sharing it again Mum

Hello - saw your second comment! Please don't worry - I didn't think you were just plugging for a second. Though it is definitely plug-worthy (like that word.. maybe I'll keep it).

Akelamalu said...

mike me'dear that is so kind of you, thank you. xx

Akelamalu said...

annelisa I didn't know you could put links on but guess what - I've done it now!! I am a tad proud of it, as it is all new to me. Dad hasn't seen it yet, though I have told him about it and he is thrilled to know that people all over the world will read about his beloved KIT. I will be fetching him to my house in the next week or so to see it for himself. Thanks for the encouragement honey. x

After 10 minutes of trying to figure out how to turn the page (losing 50 IQ pts), I finally figured it out and read the first chapter ... I'll be back, just have to regain some IQ points first

Akelamalu said...

paul
Ooops, should be easier now I've put links on the bottom of each page (thanks to Annelisa!). I hope you find it worth the loss of the IQ points! ;)
