How a child can make you cry...

I have been singing a childhood song to Kai and Nate for a few weeks. It goes

Nobody loves me
Everybody hates me
Thinks I'll go and eat worms.
Long thin slimy ones
Big juice grimy ones
Thinks I'll go and eat worms.
Chop off their heads and slurp them up
Thinks I'll go and eat worms
Nobody loves me
Everybody hates me
Thinks I'll go and eat worms.

I know it's gross but it makes them laugh.

Kai seemed to be listening rather intently the last time I sang it at his request. When I finished he looked me in the eye and said

"I love you Nanna."

Oh God, pass me the tissues!

it's the simple things, the time you spend with them, the stories you read, the songs you sing, the wise words you give that children will always remember. you're giving them a great gift, ake, and in return they give you an even bigger one... UNCONDITIONAL LOVE. i'd probably need tissues if i were there witnessing that! :)

Oh! I remember that! The version down here was a little different...it ended:

You chop off their heads and you chop off their tails and you throw their skins away...
Nobody knows how I survive on a hundred worms a day!

I'd have needed a tissue, too. x

That is so so sweet! He'll remember how you used to sing him that song all his life. What a wonderful relationship the grandparent/grandchild one can be.

... and violent crime is "going down" according to Govt figures!

(Just as inflation's officially at 4 or 5%!!)

And people wonder why my ambition's to flee this country as soon as I possibly can!!!

Oh yes Daisy being a grandparent is the most wonderful thing in the world.

The Government massage the figures to suit and it's all a pack of lies Gleds :(

You ate a live grub Marmie? I'd do anything for my kids and grandkids honey but that's going just a bit too far! :0

Kids love it don't they Jo!

I thought so too CG :)

They come out with the loveliest things at the most unexpected times don't they RN?

It choked me up too Mimi, I tried not to think about the worms. :(

Ah … this ditty brings back memories of my own childhood and of teaching. How wonderful that you can pass it along to your grandchildren … who will, no doubt, pass it on as well.

I can't wait to become a grammie (I can't believe I just wrote that!) So sweet! I have a yummy recipe if you'd like for 'mud pies' - made with pudding and oreo cookies - and then you stick the candy 'gummy worms' out of the top - kids love this dessert! Have fun with your little ones! :)

It's good that you had such a special Gramma thisguy, I hope my grandchildren think the same about me some day. x

I'd love the recipe for mud pie Deb it sounds just the sort of things that kids would love.

I am very lucky Lu :)

That's great. It reminds me of a verse in a Green Day song that is sung in a childish taunting voice:
Nobody likes you, Everyone's left you, They're all out without you having fun!"

G-Man said...

Except for the fact that EVERYONE loves Ake!!!!!

I'd love to hear that tune on this web page..hehehehe

Akelamalu said...

Aw that's cruel Citizen, but then children can be can't they? :(
