We're going to America..........

Come 6th of May next year I will be fulfilling a long held dream by going to America on a Southern Music & Dixieland Tour.    We will be flying from Manchester to Atlanta, where we will stay overnight before embarking on the following itinerary.

Day 2 - Atlanta to Mobile

Begin your stay in America's south, with our sightseeing tour of Atlanta, home of Coca-Cola and Centennial Olympic Park. We move on to Mobile, one of America's first port cities, with over 300 years of history.

Day 3 - Mobile to New Orleans

Leave Mobile behind as we continue our journey through the Gulf States, heading to New Orleans for a three night stay. Arriving early, you'll have free time to explore this unique American city.
Accommodation - Holiday Inn Express French Quarter

Day 4 - New Orleans

Take in all the 'Big Easy' has to offer on our included sightseeing tour, with the rest of your day at leisure. Don't miss the French Quarter, Royal Street's antique shops and art galleries and enjoy nightlife New Orleans-style in buzzing Bourbon Street.
Accommodation - Holiday Inn Express French Quarter

Day 5 - New Orleans

Wake up to another day in the birthplace of Jazz. Sit back and enjoy a coffee and a 'beignet' as you take in the artists, jazz musicians and street performers that surround Jackson Square.
Accommodation - Holiday Inn Express French Quarter

Day 6 - New Orleans to Memphis

Say goodbye to The Crescent City this morning, as we journey from Louisiana to Tennessee, 'Home of the Blues' and the King of Rock, Elvis Presley. We stop along the way at the state capital, Mississippi state capital, Jackson, before arriving in Memphis for a three night stay.
Accommodation - Days Inn Graceland

Day 7 - Memphis

See where it all started for Elvis Presley at the 15-acre Elvis Presley Park in Tupelo, Mississippi, where you can trace his life story, from humble beginnings to his life of fame. You'll have time in Tupelo to visit the hardware store where Elvis bought his first guitar, before returning to Memphis late afternoon.
Accommodation - Days Inn Graceland.

Day 8 - Memphis

Begin your day with another place dedicated to 'The King', with a tour of Elvis's former home, Graceland. Enjoy the rest of the day exploring Memphis - check out The Arcade coffee shop where Elvis hung out, try a 'fried peanut butter and banana sandwich' and stroll along Beale Street, stopping at one of its many clubs to listen to some Blues.
Accommodation - Days Inn Graceland.

Day 9 - Memphis to Nashville

Journey from the home of the blues to the world's country music capital, Nashville. Arriving early afternoon, an included visit to the Ryman Auditorium is a perfect introduction to this city. This evening, enjoy an included visit to the Grand Ole Opry, the world-famous live radio country music show.
Accommodation - Holiday Inn Express Downtown.

Day 10 - Nashville

Enjoy a full day to explore Nashville, taking in sights like the Country Music Hall of Fame. Head down to 'The District' to listen to live bands or call in at the Wildhorse Saloon for some line dancing.
Accommodation - Holiday Inn Express Downtown.

Day 11 - Nashville to Atlanta

Return to Atlanta for the final day of your Deep South tour, stopping en route for our included tour of the Jack Daniel's Distillery. We'll also visit Chattanooga, its 'choo-choo' made famous in Glenn Miller orchestra's song in the 1940s.
Accommodation - Baymont Inn & Suites.

Day 12 - Atlanta to UK

Taste over 60 drinks, hug a 7-foot polar bear and experience the 4-D theatre on our World of Coca-Cola® tour. We'll then transfer you to the airport for your flight home.

So, if any of you will be in or around any of these places from 6th - 17th May 2011 I would absolutely love to meet up with you.   If you have any advice on other things/places to see/places to eat whilst we're there please let me know.

Of course my camera will be on fire whilst we're there so I can share the tour with you when I get back.

I'm so excited!

We did New York through to Boston and a chunk of Connecticut a couple of years ago. I've never done the American South but I just know you're going to "Have a Nice Day" (or 12!)

You are certainly hitting the hot spots of the South. You will love New Orleans' French Quarter.

Maybe one day you will take a big ol' Texas tour. It is so wide and diverse.

I am excited for you on your trip to the U.S. I can't wait to hear all about it.

Of course my very first thought was trying to figure out if/how it would be possible to meet up with you while you were here!

It sounds like it's going to be an amazing vacation - though you're most definitely going to need to do some relaxing afterward!

Made me start singing: From Natchez to Mobile, from Memphis to St. Joe,
Wherever the four winds blow
I been in some big towns an' heard me some big talk,
But there is one thing I know
A woman's a two-face, a worrisome thing
Who'll leave ya to sing the blues in the night

akelamalu: You are going to love it. Na Aling is fab and I love Tennessee. We actually thought about moving there. You are going to be here at a wonderful time too. The south is terribly humid in the summer months. Memphis and Nashville...fabulous places to go. I curious to read what your experience is. Woo hoo...but I have to wait.

I've not ever been to Atlanta. They say it's the LA of the east coast. : )

Thom I would love to come to Honolulu and who knows maybe we will. ;)

Your trip sound fabulous Morning AJ, there are too many places to see and so little time!

Texas is another place I would love to visit Pam.

I'll remember about the shoe guys Nitebyrd, thanks for the tip.

Oooh you've been to Canada Valerie, that's on my to do list too!

You're right Ron I will enjoy being warm. If I can get to the East Coast you can guarantee I WILL DEFINITELY meet up with you. x

Linda, if you can think of a way we can meet up during our itinerary that would be amazing!

LOL I don't know that song Daryl but I like the words!

We particularly chose to go in May for the weather Spiky. New Orleans and Nashville have been on my to visit list for years - I can't believe I am actually going there!

When we were booking the holiday I thought exactly that - I wish Bee still lived in Podunk. We'll be sure to eat at Corkeys and I'll tell them you sent us. :)

I wish you lived nearby too Quilly, I would so love to meet you. :)

I really wanted to live in New York when I was younger.

But I came to London instead. And realized there was actually more of what I was after in London than New York!

Not h***n, but culture...

hahaha!

OH - so close! And yet so far.

On the plus side, I've always wanted to go to Graceland. Can't wait till you take us along.

Hi! I discovered your site via a link from 'Shrinky's' site. I live outside of Nashville after having lived in the city for 20 years. So, I would recommend stopping in at Tootsie's Orchid Lounge, and Robert's Western Wear on lower broad just around the corner from the original Ryman auditorium. Both of these places are old 'honky-tonks' that have been there for years. Also, you might want to check out The Station Inn, which is the city's premiere venue for bluegrass music.

Also, if you are inclined to rock music at all, there are numerous clubs featuring local rockers. There are so many musicians in this town it is ridiculous. Hope you enjoy it. May is a good time to tour the south....gets too hot and sticky later... Hope you have fun!

Good grief - either Chattanooga or Nashville - I'd love to meet! You're coming at a good time - it will be warm but not oppressively hot yet in May.

No Oklahoma this time Donnetta though you never know in the future!

There'll be lots of pictures Crystalchick, of that you can be sure! LOL

It does, doesn't it Flowerpot :)

Thanks for the encouraging remark Brian I'm sure we'll enjoy it.

Thanks Mona :)

I've never been to New York Gleds, but I'd like to.

I hope we can get to visit where you live in the future Julia :)

Cheers G-man, shame you don't live near them or we could meet up.

I'm hoping so Jannie :)

It's all organised for us Maggie so all we have to do is enjoy. ;)

Hi and welcome Mythopolis. Thanks so much for the information, I will make a note of all your recommendations and hopefully visit them. :)
