Dawn couldn't see Toby's coffin through the tears steaming from her eyes.
Choking back a sob she pulled the children close to confort them.
Life would be so empty now.
As the coffin was lowered into the ground, her son gripped her hand and asked.....
"Can we get another dog just like Toby please Mum?"
Friday 55 Flash Fiction is brought to you by G-man (Mr Knowitall). The idea is you write a story in exactly 55 words. If you want to take part pop over and let G-man know when you've posted your 55.

There is a truth here, while there are exceptions often the kids recover far faster from a loss than adults. In a way that gives me some hope.
Once again until the very end who would have thought Man's best friend :) Love it Have a great weekend.
Awww... I didn't expect that. And to think that I did a post on the man's best friend only the day before...
Bless!
Nice one, once more. Never had a pet myself, though.
awww...losing a pet is like losing a family member

I had a sneaking suspicion ...
I had no idea how this would end. Oh the tears I've shed when pet dogs have gone.

Talk about putting the "fun" in funeral! (Not really, just wanted to make the pun)
Dogs are a perpetual joy in our lives, a series of individual animal personalities to love us unconditionally for a brief time, until the next one takes their turn.
Nice 55.
That ending is superb...
order of the day
I never saw it coming!
Good one, Ake!
that shook me for a while...
Ake, how is Queenie. Please tell her that I miss her and I often pray for her!
It's always hard to lose a pet. Took me a good 2 years to not almost cry each time I thought of Chancie.
xo
You can always get another dog, but it won't replace the one you lost. Mom knows. The kids will learn. Alas.
I still miss my Mr Tucker.
I have never owned a dog...but the feeling is Universal.
Oh that's so true.
Thanks for visiting during my holidays. It's much appreciated!
I was distraught when our furry swine died. We were going to have to put her down but we didn't thank God, she just died, but it was horrible.
As soon as my son had grieved his gerbils he started asking about getting a ferret. (No!)
I've shed tears for beloved pets myself so I guess I can relate!
I know, sorry Clean&Crazy :(
You're so right Eric!
Why thankyou gautami :)
Ah the ending got you Mama Zen ;)
Ooops sorry Mona. Queenie is good, very busy, I'll tell her you were asking after her. :)

Those few words conjured so much emotion! I'm thinking about my sweet 13 year old malti-poo. I'll be devastated when he passes.
