Jamie needed someone to talk to, he was lonely.
At school they all called him a Geek.
He was fascinated with his new online friend.
They enjoyed the same things - stamp collecting, reading, computer games.
They arranged to meet at McDonalds.
"He didn't say, in the chatroom, that he was an old man" thought Jamie.
Friday 55 Flash Fiction is brought to you by G-man (Mr Knowitall). The idea is you write a story in exactly 55 words. If you want to take part pop over and let G-man know when you've posted your 55.

Oh dear. I hope Jaime made it home safely after that encounter.
yewww, funny 55!!
Of course it's an old man, who else collects stamps? :P
ACK...I hope he just keeps to stamp collecting, reading and computer games when he meets Jamie. Let's hope so :) Great 55. Have a wonderful Friday :)
ah, the dreaded old man in the chat room!
smiles, bee

dangerous times... Gone for a poem this week based on the Etheree form created about twenty years ago by an Arkansas poet named Etheree Taylor Armstrong It normally consists of ten lines of unmetered and unrhymed verse, the first line having one syllable, each succeeding line adding a syllable. I added an extra row for the word count and the punch line. See what I mean here.
Ah you saw the meaning behind my 55 Quilly!
Oops, it wasn't supposed to be funny Clean&Crazy :0
I don't think he really collects stamps MomsJournal
Unfortunately I think he has other things in mind Thom.
Bad more like Dumdad :(
! Gleds
You got it Bee
Very dangerous times John
A close shave there.
OMG....this was a good one, Akelamalu!!!!
That ending was like, Oooooooo!
You are soooo great with these, m'dear! You always keep us guessing!
Have a great weekend, m'dear!
X
creepy 55...run the other direction, do not look back...whew!
my 55 is up!
Hello, dear, from California. You did well, creating a frightful situation in so few words. Our poor vulnerable children.
My 55 is up as well.
Clever!
Definitely Anthony!
That was definitely the reaction I was after Ron and thanks m'dear. x
I do hope Jamie does a runner Brian :(
Thankyou Enchanted Oak and thanks for dropping by and commenting. :)
Cheers Daryl x
Which is the biggest problem with on-line "friends" - you never know who they really are or what they're really after sometimes. Hopefully Jamie told his parents where he was going and what he was doing though I'm afraid he might not have.
loved it,
online dating or befriending is like that, it ends up a joke!
very impressive 55.
enjoyed it very much!
Good little parable to remember..
Yesss, the "bad guys" have made it difficult for us old Peeps to be friendly. So we live with that, of course.
This is why I always introduce myself on chat as a 14-year-old (I'm 76) and that way I get to meet lots of Peeps my age, but they always seem like--well, SICK--grin!
What's "chat"? (another grin!)
Yep...
Just like people do not realize that I'm actually a 29 year old Illegal alien Mother of eight from Costa Rica!
Excellent 55 Ake..
You Rock baby!
Thanks for visiting, thanks for playing, and have a Kick Ass Week-End!!
akelamalu: I know I'll always get surprised when I read your 55. And you never disappoint.
a good one sweetie.
have a great weekend honey.
I'm going to a concert...woohoo!
Scary, scary, scary!
Watch out for those predators...inciteful 55! :0
I like how you leave the ending open to interpretation. I think 100% of the comments before me immediately thought "predator". But I went the other direction. You didn't specifically say that the old man was a predator, or that Jamie was afraid.
So perhaps the old man and Jamie settled into a pleasant grandfatherly relationship.
I like the story.
Nice story!^^
Well done you for bringing this topic to light again... it is scarily true for some young people :0(
:o/
its awful how such possibly very positive innocent things automatically bring the worst to mind
A chill just ran up my spine..
That's a parent/grandparent's biggest fear isn't it Linda? One doesn't know until maybe it's too late! :(
Glad you liked it Jingle
It is Buff
Yes, it's always the case that the bad guys bring everyone under suspicion steveronie :(
One can be anything online G-man! ;)
Thanks Spiky and I look forward to hearing about the concert x
It is scary Mama Zen :(
Certainly we have to warn our kids that they're out there Lulda
No I didn't say the old man is a predator and it's nice that you thought maybe he wasn't Trav but, unfortunately, an adult not revealing their age online when talking to children is very suspicious, don't you think? I'm glad you liked the story.
Thanks Sashindoubutsu.
It's very frightening isn't it Eternally Distracted :0
Unfortunately yes it does Lettuce :(
Mine too, when I wrote it Shrinky :(
and who says all your friends have to be the same age??? there is much to learn if jaime's mom is okay with this ;) i really enjoyed this great 55!
Great 55. And scary too!
Wonderful 55!
How could I have missed this?
Have a blessed Sunday!
hugs
shakira
This i the fear of every parent who has children who go on-line.
Well they don't Sheri but I'm not sure Jamie has told him Mum!
It is scary Evalinn - there are some evil people out there!
