Friday 55 Flash Fiction # 38 The Trip

The Trip

“Come on, we’re going for a little drive” he said

“Oh great” she thought, rushing out to the car “I’d rather go for a walk, but beggars can’t be choosers”.

Suddenly he stopped.

"Out you get.......

I'm sorry,

we can’t keep you,

someone will find you and take you in, you’re such a lovely puppy.”

The number of abandoned dogs inspired me to write this rather poignant tale.

Friday 55 Flash Fiction is brought to you by G-man (Mr Knowitall). The idea is you write a story in exactly 55 words. If you want to take part pop over and let G-man know when you've posted your 55.

that's so sad...there are times i don't understand why people would spend tons of $$$ on purebreds when there are many dogs out there waiting to be adopted. pets shouldn't be about status, it should be about unconditional love.

wooo what a surprise to see a 55 on a WEDNESDAY lol actually, i already have my 55 written for friday, just yet to post. will do tomorrow. this is the first time i have it done BEFORE and not doing it last minute LOL

Great 55. Its shocking how many folks do this, and even worse monstrosities to pets...
Call you later.

I've got a really weird sense of deja-vu!

Anyway...Great 55 Ak, albeit a sad one. If there's one thing guaranteed to bring tears to my eyes it's cruelty to animals. Look at that dog's little face :(

I know, its so sad Ciara. Sorry I scheduled my 55 to post but put the wrong date on which is why it went up early, then I took it down again. :(

Too many people abandon their animals Queenie, it's too sad.

Oh crikey MissU you spotted it early too did you? Sorry. Glad you liked it though.

Ah now you know it'll be all down to you to look after it don't you Marmie? Wait until you're 'on your feet' gal, then think about it.

You got it Buff!

Thanks g-man, glad you think like me. Glad you like the hol. pix. x

Oh, I saw where this was going as soon as I saw the "out you get". *frown* What's really sad is this trend has picked up in recent months as the mortgage crisis unfolds. Too many families are losing their houses, and when they move into rentals or with friends/relatives, the pets often aren't invited along. It's really terrible.

Great 55.

I happened on this post in my reader yesterday and composed this comment in my Word Doc: Hmmm … I could have sworn it’s Thursday (all day long) but I accepted your Flash Friday … just because, but I’m saddened by the abandoned puppy and would gladly give him/her a home with Molly and me.. When the page wasn’t available, I realized you were planning ahead … so I did too … and saved this comment for Friday.
Hugs and blessings,

Thanks Dumdad :)

It's so sad Smarmoofus, but I do wish people wouldn't just abandon their pets. The RSPCA will take them in and try to rehome them - so much better. :(

How kind of your employer to take in all those dogs, but shame on those who abandoned them eh Missy.

Oh sorry Storyteller, I've flumoxed a few people by putting the wrong date on my 55 when I scheduled it to post. Well done you for spotting it though and saving your comment until today. :)

oh Ak that picture breaks my heart. how anyone could abandon an animal is beyond me....

Awwww, that's so sad. I hate it when people abandon pets. Very moving 55.

You hit one of my rawest nerves with this one. Having worked in a dog rescue group I saw far too much of this kind of thing. Your dog will be the best friend you will ever have -- bar none. And people who discard them as if they're disposable commodities are the worst kind of despicable. There's a special corner of Hell reserved for these miscreants. And I hope they get dumped there when they least expect it just like their dogs did.

Pff... now I'm angry.

Oh, I almost forgot -- thanks for stopping by my place

Your little fiction story brought tears to my eyes, Akalamalu! How could people abandone puppies like that?
And I'm jumpin' to "Jimmy Mack!" :)

Akelamalu said...

I know Flowerpot, it's incomprehensible to me too. :(

Me too James

Crikey, I did get you all fired up Mojo, sorry about that! Thanks for stopping by.

Some people just have no heart Teach! You like the music I take it? ;)

That is so very sad. I have two lovely dogs and even when they get on my last nerve I would never want anything so awful to happen to them.

Excellent piece of flash fiction.

awww. So sad! But they do that! I have seen people abandoning old cows here when they cease to give them enough milk & their upkeep cost becomes more than the profit they can yield!

In India Cow slaughter is banned. So you will find many a cows that are abandoned, on the roads here!

Great 55ve ake

Great #55... but sad..

Hello, "a"

Neat 55, but makes me so sad. We love puppies--and kittens, too. Both our pets were rescued pets and now loved so much.

My 55er is up, too. Donnetta

As usual Akelamalu...you always give us something to ponder with these. And I LOVE that!

To me, abandoning an animal would be like abandoning a child. I think the least people could do, would be to place them somewhere for animal adoption, don't just disgard them, because I know deep inside...an animal feels that.

Wonderful 55, dear lady!

Have a great weekend!

I did enjoy that but how sad :( you bring forward a very good point x

Akelamalu said...

I don't understand it either Anndi, why get a pet to abandon it? :(

Oh how awful Mona< it's not like someone will take an abandoned cow in is it?

Thanks Shrinky, I do know what you mean. :)

Yes it is sad Bindi :(

Oh good for you taking in a rescued pet Donnetta :)

Yet again, we think alike Ron!

Thanks Emmie, I'm happy if I got the point over. :)

Oh I don't like that. I can't imagine abandoning a dog or a cat.

I love this. I wish I had room for more puppies in my home.

Akelamalu said...

I know it's terrible Trav but some people do it!

You're a dog lover then KB?
