Van Gogh's Ear?............

This is the Van Gogh's Ear Award as created by Roger of Idaho Photo  This is what he wrote about the Van Gogh's Ear Award:

"Every year I like to make up a award and hand it out to people that make a difference in the blogsphere. I like to make it a award for all to enjoy and pass out if one so wants to, I just ask if your going to give it out to link back to me as the creator of the Van Gogh's Ear Award."

Inspiration of the Van Gogh's Ear Award

"You may know the story of Vincent Van Gogh a well known artist in history. Although a brilliant painter in his later years went quite insane he received the nickname of fou roux ("the redheaded madman"). The most bazaar of Vincent's behavior is when he cut off the lower part of his own left ear lobe, which he wrapped in newspaper and gave to a prostitute named Rachel in the local brothel, asking her to "keep this object carefully. After this he suffered recurrent bouts of mental illness, which led to his suicide July 29, 1890 he was 37 years old. His works of art are priceless."

The point of this award

"We are all artist in are own way be it art, photography, writing, philosophy, comedy, blogging and we all go a little crazy sometimes. But if you ever feel so crazy to cut off your ear and give it to a prostitute 'Seek Help'!"

Always remember you're unique.

Just like everyone else.

Roger passed this award on to lots of bloggers including Storyteller (Small Reflections) who in turn passed it on to lots of other bloggers including me!  Thankyou Storyteller. x

Well I'm not as mad as Van Gogh (yet) but I may be getting there so, before I do I'd like to pass it on to the following people, trying not to duplicate those who have already received it because there's quite a lot!

Cloudia (Comfort Spiral)

Nick (Nick's Bytes)

Please feel free to pass it on to your favourite bloggers mentioning the origin and the sentiments behind it please.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

And just for your amusement:

YOU KNOW YOU ARE LIVING IN 2009 when...

1. You accidentally enter your PIN on the microwave.

2. You haven't played solitaire with real cards in years.

3. You have a list of 15 phone numbers to reach your family of three.

4. You e-mail the person who works at the desk next to you.

5. Your reason for not staying in touch with friends and family is that they don't have e-mail addresses.

6. You pull up in your own driveway and use your cell phone to see if anyone is home to help you carry in the groceries.

7. Every commercial on television has a web site at the bottom of the screen

8. Leaving the house without your cell phone, which you didn't even have the first 20 or 30 (or 60) years of your life, is now a cause for panic and you turn around to go and get it.

10. You get up in the morning and go on line before getting your coffee.

11. You start tilting your head sideways to smile. : )

12. You're reading this and nodding and laughing.

13. Even worse, you know exactly to whom you are going to forward this message.

14. You are too busy to notice there was no #9 on this list.

15. You actually scrolled back up to check that there wasn't a #9 on this list.

~~~~~~~~~~~AND FINALLY~~~~~~~~~~~~
NOW U R LAUGHING at yourself.
Thanks to the friend who emailed this to me.
Akelamula, congratulations on a well deserved award! I love the post today because they all hit home. giggle, tehetehe!
Thank you for my ear! WOW! I have just received my very first award. I am humbled, but very excited too, especially since it came from you.
I will try to be worthy. I love VVG. He is actually one of my favorite artist. I remember in college,when I took painting,the teachers do not encourage any style or even discuss style. I had never painted before,and my painting teacher thought my style was similar to his. May this encourage me to take up painting again! LOL
Thank you again.
Why thank you for the award....but you know I am having troubles with this...you see since my surgery when I explain to people about all the scars I now have on my chest....I describe them as a very bad Van Gogh painting...I tell no lie......so it is funny to me that this should be the award. I think the surgeon did get a little scissor happy based on what I am left with....
But I will accept this award with the intent that was meant...and if you don't mind...you gave it a great explanation and hence I would like to copy and paste it to my blog if that is ok with you.....
Cheers my friend and thank you....
I remember being in the Van Gough room at the Orsay Museum in Paris... it was just asfter the time when Sunflowers and Irises had sold for those obscene sums... there in the company of 20+ VGs, no glass between us, and so close you could turn your head and see daylight sparkling off the crests of the brushstrokes... and ALL I could think about was "wow I'm in the presence of more than a BILLION POUNDS..!!!"
Anonymous said...
Hey, thanks for the ear! Which is a bit gross!
Mel said...
Okay.
I admit it.
I scrolled AND I laughed.
Dang. LOL Busted!
And what an honour and privilege to be acknowledged for the difference your presence has made in the life of another. Is there a higher honour than that?
Blessings to you, ma'am......more of them--seems there's a vast array of them already, eh?
Dianne said...
isn't Roger the best? I love him
and he has such good taste - he chose you :)
love the 2009 list !!
I've actually done some of those
Lu' said...
I liked that living in 2009 list. Enjoyed the music as always :)
Linda said...
Sssh, don't tell anyone but I do #4 all the time!
Roger gave me the ear award also but I've yet to do a post on it as, again don't tell anyone, it kind of creeps me out to a small extent! It was very kind of Roger, don't get me wrong on that one, but it's just a little creepy. Then again, imagine how the girl that Van Gogh gave his real ear to must have felt!
Anonymous said...
congrats on the award! but i don't think Van Gogh is mad. he's not as ordinary as we think he should be. It's hard to understand an artist's mind. but if you look at the drawings he did during his time in the mental hospital, you might be wow'ed by his masterpieces :)
i love this blogskin very much, very soothing for the eyes! :)
John said...
You know, it takes a lot of passion to cut your ear off. But it wasn't a turn-on for the poor lass who got it as a pressie. A real lose-lose. Oh well.
Catch said...
Thank You Sweety for my award!!! I am very pleased with it. also I love love love the reasons you know your in 2009. I sit here and laughed and laughed b/c they are all so true!!!! But you know what? I am not one of those cell phone people....I hate those things. I had one years ago and I refuse to get another one....its like your on-call for everyone!!! Nada, not me...lol
Akelamalu said...
Aw thanks Ron m'dear, you're so kind. x
How wonderful that you've actually seen those masterpieces in real life Gleds!
LOL You think it's gross Citizen?
Pleased you got a laugh out of it Mel and thanks. :)
The list is funny isn't it Dianne? I'm afraid I don't know Roger hon it was Storyteller who gifted me the award, but methinks Roger is a great guy for giving birth to the award!
Glad you enjoyed it all Lu x
You were on my list for the award Linda until I noticed Roger had given it to you - I feel in good company! I do #4 all the time too!
I think he must have been a little mad to cut off his own ear Eelwind, it's not something you or I would do is it? ;)
I'm not sure I'd want to receive someone's ear, it wouldn't turn me on Ernest! LOL
You're very welcome Catch and I'm glad you had a laugh at the 2009 list. :)
