David’s (Authorblog) Weekend Wandering question this week is:
What brings tears to your eyes?
If you want to join in here’s what David would like you to do:
Please answer today's question on your own blog, any time until next weekend. Just link to this blog (or to this post) so I can follow the progress of the discussion.
There are lots of things that will bring tears to my eyes.
A bang on the nose, slamming the car door shut on my thumb, stubbing my toe, poking myself in the eye with a mascara wand, banging my head on the boot of the car whilst removing the shopping, dropping something heavy on my foot, the price of petrol, energy, food, clothes – all guaranteed to bring a tear to my eye.
I’m a sucker for a sad film, one that needs a box of tissues on my knee, I get involved and have been known to sob throughout. I don’t like the after effects though, puffy eyes and a red nose. A story of courage, anyone overcoming a disability or the bravery of putting themselves in danger to save someone else, can have me so choked up I can’t breathe. Acts of random kindness, a hug, can reduce me to happy tears. Children just being cute, like in the school play, make me blubber. The first note your child writes for you – I still have a small slip of paper from my youngest son who wrote “I love you very mush” when he was four years old.
Reading or hearing of cruelty to defenceless animals makes my blood run cold and makes me cry. People starving, stories of genocide, the inhumanity of man to man make me despair. There is one thing guaranteed to make me cry unconsolably – cruelty to children. I will never understand what goes on in the mind of men and women who purposely abuse, maim and kill children. These crimes against children are the most abhorrent actions that anyone can commit and anyone guilty of such actions has no right to call themselves human.
Other than that “I’m dead ‘ard me”!

All the things you wrote, all those things make me cry. I cried at my sister's wedding more than at mine, I cried at the birth of all my sons, I cry too when I have laughed so much. I also cry when I had a shouting match (not often, the shouting match I mean...;-) with GAP - the tears just flow, even if I didn't want it too...
I believe that tears can be cleansing. They can wash away pain, sadness, sorrow, and even anger. I remember that a wise person once told me “First come the tears, then the laughter.” I think that she may have been right.
yes, weddings...
smiles, bee
xoxoxoxoxxxoxo
Akela - you're as 'ard as I am and I am renowned for my NOT 'ardness!!!
I've written on this too and it is scheduled to post later today (2pm). We are also agreed on the child cruelty - abhorrent.
PS Forgot to say - well written! Great piece - goes without saying of course but now I said it too. ;0)
Onions never used to, but now they do- go figure! Some spring plant growth can do it too. On the sad side, sudden, tragic news about anyone I know that is younger than me bothers me greatly...
yes, weddings all the time (especially my own!)
Dear Akelamalu,
Hope you having a beautiful day!
all those things you said make me cry too... I try not to watch movies..even sad songs make me cry..
thinking about my family...when i can see them again...thought about my hometown...all those bring tears to my eyes...
great post..
((hugs))

Most of the things you’ve mentioned (and a few others) generate tears in me, and like Sometimes Saintly Nick … I believe tears cleanse and heal our hearts so that we remain open to experience (and available to others) in this lifetime.
Hugs and blessings,
Some music does it for me too!
I cry when I'm upset, sad,or depressed. Yes real men do cry! Just ask my Dad at the weddings of his two daughters, my Sisters.and the last fathers day we spent together in 1984 when a letter I wrote to him brought tears to his eyes and I found my self in the biggest bear hug I ever got out of him. Dad I miss you.
That was well written and of similar content to mine, I thought!
I cried tears of happiness at both my son's weddings but not my own I was too happy to cry Bella :)
I so agree Nick a good cry does work wonders. :)
Weddings can be so emotional Bee x
I look forward to reading your Cath, us 'ard uns have to support each other! ;)
Oh yes Buff when you get to our age it's just not right for anything tragic to happen to youngsters is it?
Ah you big softee Dotterel! Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment. :)
Aw Bindi, you must miss your family so much honey. xx
I'm sure I've missed a lot off my my list Storyteller (I'm a big softee really) and I do agree about tears being cleansing.
Oh yes Flowerpot some music reduced me to tears too.
My father cries and my Hubby and my two sons - all real men as you say Mike. I can only imagine how much you miss your Dad m'dear 'cause I still have mine, thankfully. x
Thanks Maggie. I imagine most of us cry at some of the same things.
Really, me too!!!!!!
Ah, so sweet - I totally agree, all very upsetting. You're obviously a kind-hearted person to care enough about all these things.
Hmmm, we're so much alike, even to the slamming my thumb in the car door...must be we're kin...I'm sure of it...I'm a 'ard arted one" am I, too, other than the things you mention!
hugs Sister
Sandi
Gosh, I cry at the drop of a hat. My list would be way too long to list. *LOL*
Many of the things you mentioned here make me cry too, Akelamalu!
Especially anything pertaining to animals and children.
Hey...I love the photo you used in this post.
Is it Edith Piaf?
I love her!
I am also a sucker for a sad film or a sad book for that matter. For someone who likes to act like she has such a hard crust, I've got one heck of a soft filling!
Lord, what doesn't bring tears to my eyes? I cry about everything.
I think I'm getting more emotional as I get older. Or maybe I mean more sentimental.
I don't guess that's such a bad thing to be.
Ard Akela - be afraid, very afraid.
I'll go and lie down now.
awww, that "i love you very mush" letter is so cute, ake!
i cry so easily, too. :)
Me too...to everything!!
I know you do Queenie x
Aw thankyou Marianne what a sweet thing to say. x
Ah sister Sandi, we think alike. :)
LOL you're a big softee then Tisha? x
I guessed they might Ron, you're such a sensitive person m'dear. Not sure who the photo is I got it off google images.
Yes we can put on a hard act Linda but the 'real' us will always out won't it?
Oh dear Citizen you are very sensitive aren't you? x
MWM has become more emotional and sensitive as he's got older, he can fill up telling about something he's seen good or bad!
He he, what you like Dumdad?
Oh yes my little note from my son is very cute Acey :)
same here!
but i like to cry specially when i feel sad because it makes me feel a lot better after :)
Yes, definitely... all the things you mentioned make me cry!

I'm here to thank you your kind comment on Lily's birth announcement.
So sorry it took me so long, I'm just trying to return to "normal" blogging behavior, now that my life comes back to "sort of normal", too. *g*
Sanni
I can agree with all that! All of it makes me cry to.
yup I'm with you on all these.
But currently the tears in my eyes are a combination of serious onion overload and feeling sorry for myself as I'm missing my boyfriend.
I admit that I do cry at all the things you've listed.
I also cry when I think of my mother, who died too soon.
Slicing an onion the way she showed me brings tears to my eyes.
After reading yours I decided I'd like to participate, too. Mine's
here
Hope all is well with you!
Thanks so much for your thoughts & encouragement.

Oh you're welcome Sanni, hope 'getting back to normal' doesn't take too long. :)
Oh we're all big softees aren't we Suburbia?
Well of course onions would make you cry Topchamp but probably not as much as missing your boyfriend. x
Oh yes I missed that one out Krimo, thinking of my mother fills me up too. :(
