Bargain.....

Whilst I was off work on Easter holidays recently, we (MWM, youngest son and I) went to a wholesale book warehouse where they have a sale a couple of times a year and all children's reading and activity books, games etc are just £1 each. Now most of these books are between £4.99 and £7.99 each normally but I spent just £14 and got this lot

When I totted up the prices it came to £68! How's that for a bargain?

I'm saving them all until Christmas when I will make up little parcels for our grandchildren - hopefully they will love them.

Youngest son spent £20 and got a shed load of books for his two boys, I don't think we duplicated any, so the Christmas parcels should be OK.

Oh and MWM bought put a book for himself in the basket "Codes - How to make them and break them"! Perhaps he thinks it will help him figure me out! LOL

Now for more awards.........

Mother Of This Lot (Mother's Pride) a recent blog find, (which, if you haven't already, you should read), has a wonderfully talented daughter called Fixer who makes awards for MOTL to dish out. I am a lucky recipient of this masterpiece

How cool is that?

Anyway I get to pass it on to others (in no particular order) who like a good chat, so please take a and a slice of get chatting, and pass it on will you please.......

Queenie (Queenie's Random Ramblings)

Miss U (A Sideways Look at Womanhood)

Linda (Are We There Yet?)

CG (The Compulsive Worrier)

Miss Bee (Muffin 53)
Flowerpot (Flowerpot Days)
Ron (Vent) - yes I know he's a man but he loves a good chat!

Also Bindi (Beautiful World) gave me this cracker

Thank you Bindi. I get to pass this on too, so please accept this

'Be The Blog' award

Thanks so much for the award, Ak. I think pretty soon you'll have to start an award blog for all of yours!

Love the idea of the book sale, I would love that, and I wish MWM every success in 'breaking the code' and figuring you out.

(Don't tell him it's not possible, it will keep him amused for years)

Booksales! Oh how I love book sales! I am no longer the children's book lover kind since I have no grandkids yet but everything else I love.

I'd go mad in a book warehouse like that! The WH Smith in Paris virtually doubles the price of books so I've given up buying there. We stocked up the car last summer when we were in the UK, buying tons of books from charity shops.

And many thanks for honouring with this rather cool award. I shall display it proudly.

Who can pass up books on sale...? Anyone...? Anyone...?

Congratulations on your two new awards! I'll have to go and visit a few of your nominees. And thank you so much for my Be The Blog award. I'm honored.

It feels great to find special bargains like that, doesn't it?

Take care, Akela!

I think book sales like that should become a government iniative- kids need to read more. What lucky grandkids you'll have this christmas!

You're welcome Miss U x

I'm not giving him any clues Ali! ;)

You are welcome Flowerpot :)

Oh I could have spent so much more Buff but MWM insisted I call it a day! You're welcome on the award m'dear.

Yes definitely a bargain on the books Bee glad you like the award. x

I just wish they'd had adult books as well for £1 each, my credit card would have been HOT Dave!

Not sure whereabouts you stay when over here Dumdad but if it corresponds with the sale it would be worth a visit for you, they have a few warehouses dotted about. Checkout the website http://www.scholastic.co.uk/sale/

Thanks Julia and you're welcome. x

It certainly does Josh! x

I Agree GIM the government should encourage children to read, like Dolly Parton's 'Imagination Library' which she has brought over here, it's a fantastic idea.

congrats on your awards and congrats to all those you passed them on to. more blogs to check out - yummy!

I'd go mad at a book sale like that. I love everything about books - the feel, the smell, the sound of opening one, the sound of closing one. LOL guess I love books.

This pile of books definitely looks like a great bargain to me … though I admit that I’d never be able to wait until Christmas (8+months from now) to give them away … and if I did manage to hold off, I’d probably forget about them entirely until the holidays had passed … thereby defeating the point. LOL

Congratulations on your awards … I look forward to checking out the links to the recipients when time permits. Today I’m doing Heads or Tails for the first time and trying to visit those blogs ;--)

Hugs and blessings,

What a great idea to stock up for the holidays now - especially at such great prices! Books are THE best and if you can get the grandkids to love them early on in life then chances are good they will love them forever.

Thank you so much for the lovely award, too! I'm going to have to give some thought as to who to pass it on to. Hmmm ...

I remember we used to have a booksale thing v occasionally at primary school (this was during the age of the net book agreement and so no discounting down... (boohoo)...)

because my mum must've preloaded them or me with £££ credit i had enough to buy the hobbit by jrr tolkien

i remember glaring at the back thining "what is that ugly black and white striped thing??!???!!" (twas a barcode)

yukky things! why can't they make them blend in more? i thought that when I was ten. am just more used to SEEING the damn things now!!

Akelamalu said...

Thanks Dianne, you would have been in your element at the book warehouse!

I usually buy Christmas presents all through the year and put them away (yes I know I'm sad!) Storyteller. Good luck with Heads or Tails. :)

Didn't see any Buzz Lightyear Ron, but when next I go I'll look especially for you and get one and send it to you. I knew you'd like the award. ;)

I saw you got the award too Cath so sit down, we'll have a natter! :)

I did do well, didn't I MOTL? :)

My pleasure RN x

You can never have too many books Bindi x

Half price books are better than full price books any day Trav!

Cheers Jeff :)

Your bookcases sound like ours Nea! :)

I love a bargain too Bella and thanks honey. x

You're welcome Linda. All the grankids love books - I think it's in the genes! :)

We have booksales at school but as you say they're not discounted which is unfair to the children, still they do buy them Gleds.

if only we could get books at cheaper prices! books here are so expensive. A simple book itself already costs us around 30 bucks. that's why we only visit second hand book store. sigh....

Akelamalu said...

Thanks Anndi, and I hope you find some bargain books. x

My pleasure Teach and thank you.

Yes Dolly's 'Imagination Library' was big news just recently GIM.

Oh you are so welcome Ciarax

Aw thankyou Misty xx

I love going to thrift shops when I have time Donnetta, I've had some great bargains from them.

No it was Scholastic Books Claire they have a website and warehouses all over the place.

It would be double the prices I mentioned in dollars Skittles, so you can judge for yourself whether it was a bargain. :)

Me too Citizen!

I'm all ready for tomorrow g-man, hope you are! :)

What a shame you don't have book sales like the one I went to Elween, you could save so much.

Excellent idea.

I wonder why I never shop sales during the year and save the gifts for Christmas? Ah! I know! If I did that I’d miss the rush of adrenalin I get from Christmas Eve shopping!

Jo Beaufoix said...
