Million Dollars......

See that super award above?

I received that from Storyteller at Small Reflections.     Isn't it fun?   Thankyou Storyteller, I'm honoured.

Now this award comes with rules, see below.

1. Only five people allowed.

2. Four have to be dedicated followers of your blog.

3. One has to be someone new or recently new to your blog and live in another part of the world.

4. You must link back to whoever gave you the award.

Righty oh, so using the rules I would like to bestow the award on the following people.

Ron (Vent)
Buffalodickdy (Opinions and Rectums)
and a fairly new (but treasured) reader to my blog

Storyteller also gave me another award on her other blog Sacred Ruminations, she thinks I'm brainy!  Yes honestly she does 'cause she gave me this

There's rules again for this 'un as follows

Now do you know some Brainy Bloggers? Pass it on to them:
Think of at least 5 bloggers that you believe to be “Brainy Bloggers”
Post it on your blog for all to see! Let them know you’ve awarded them by email, twitter, etc or via a comment on their blog!
Share some linky love and link back to both the person who awarded you and back to http://www.mommybrainreports.com
Go back to the Brainy Blog Headquarters to sign Mr. Linky and then pass it on!

I believe all my blog pals are brainy so it's going to be really difficult to choose just five, so would the first five commenters on this post please take the award with my blessing and pass it on.

Thank you so much Storyteller for both the awards, I'm honoured and I will try to live up to them both.

And now for

A CONUNDRUM

Three men needed to hire a hotel room.

The manager told them that it would cots £30 so each of the men handed over £10 and went up to the room.

Later, the manager realised that he should have only charged £25 for the room. He called over a bellboy, gave him five one pound coins and told him to take it up to the men.

When the bell boy knocked at the room door, one of the men opened the door and the boy explained what had happened and handed over the £5. The man, realising that he could not easily divide the £5 between the three of them gave each of the men £1 and the bell boy the remaining £2 as a tip.

Now this meant that each of the men had paid only £9 for the room making a total of £27. Add to that the £2 tip to the bell boy and you have £29.

What happened to the remaining £1 from the original £30?

the conundrum is a math question...or it has numbers. numbers and i don't get along. so maybe i shouldn't be taking that brainy blogger award after all LOL

btw...this is my 2nd comment. so you'll have to count 3, 4, 5 & 6 to get your five. jeez. i better stop while i'm ahead :-/

I hate that conundrum. It drove me insane when I first saw it (back then it was 3 boys and a chocloate bar).

The room actally cost two of them £8.33 and the other one £8.34, but they donated 67p, 67p and 66p respectively for the tip.

Sorry...I HAD to work it out!

I love the conundrum. I had to pass that on to those who think they're smart in my life!

Congratulations on your well deserved awards.

Peace - D

WOW ~ It is going to be a great day! This is the first time I have been awarded a blogger award - and I don't know what to say. I didn't have an acceptance speech prepared when I arrived here. WOW. I feel pretty special. Thank you. Now...since I am a relative newbie - what do I do now? Somehow I have to stick this award over at my blog? I am so computer challenged. This could be an all day project! Wish me well! Enjoy your day! I know I will!

Mr Bill Gates of Microsoft has created software called Excel that excuses me from ever again having to work out any kind of math problems on my own.

Heheheheheheee.

I've asked numerous people this same question over the years. Love watching their faces get all scrunched up as they wrestle with the answer.

Congrats on the award and a fine selection of recipients I might add.

First, congrats.

I don't think there is an extra pound. That problem is comparing two very different things - how much each person paid originally and how the overpayment was then divided, and how much the room actually cost and the bellboy's tip. If the men had started out paying 9 pounds each (oh, it is so hard for me not to write "dollars!") and then tipped the bellboy two punds, then the 29 pound figure would be relevant.

G-Man said...

They spent it on the Vibrating Bed!! hehehe

Akelamalu said...

I don't blame you at all Trav! :)

I was the one with a screwed up face when I first saw it Jeff!

I'll post the answer soon Citizen

LOL trust you to think of that g-man! :)

KB said...

Woohoo! Congrats on the award.

Linda said...

You are SO deserving of both of those awards and more! Congrats to the people you have passed them on to also!

Good question about where did that last pound go ... would it have been lost in the adjustment for inflation?!?

Akelamalu said...

Thanks KB x

Great answer Linda and more than likely! Thanks hon. x

Smalltown RN said...

Ok I am not good at these conumdrums...hubby I think got it....

they paid 30 for the room, got 5 back,kept 3,that's 25+3=28+2 for bellboy= 30

There you go.....

Good one!

Akelamalu said...

Well done RN :)

Cath said...

Congratulations on all your awards! Well deserved.

Now the conundrum - I have seen this before somewhere. It is clever.

If you think of it as the bellboy returning £3 not £5, (because they returned £2 so they had £3 returned) then that means they have £27 paid (downstairs) and £3 between the 3 of them. 27+3=30. ;0)

Thanks for the linky-love … and congratulations on following the rulez too! I often have trouble with those myself. I suspect most (if not all) of your readers find you ‘brainy’ my dear. Anyone who can create Wordzlls like YOU is definitely ‘brainy’ … so I rest my case ;--)

Hmmm … I used to pose problems like this for my ‘students’ (way back before I retired) … but alas … this evening I’m simply TOO tired to think about ANYTHING … so I’m relieved your ‘brainy readers’ have already come up with answers. LOL
Hugs and blessings,
