Friday 55 Flash Fiction #176 Alone...

The baby clung to his dead mother.

Surrounded by the mutilated bodies of his family,

hacked, dismembered, bloody.

The gang had come at dawn with guns and machetes, sparing none.

He lay silently, they hadn't seen him, he was spared.

Much later......

the ranger picked up the orphaned gorilla and put him in the truck.

Friday 55 Flash Fiction is brought to you by G-man (Mr Knowitall). The idea is you write a story in exactly 55 words. If you want to take part pop over and let G-man know when you've posted your 55.

  1. Well thought out.
I hate violence of any kind, yet the world seems full of it.

  2. That was excellent. I started out thinking war (coming from Mimi's via blogblast for Peace too!) and then the twist.

    Perfect. :-)

  19. shocking, heart wrenching and so much said in so few words. The twist at the end makes it no less tragic. Yet another incredible piece of writing.

You should put them all together in a book.

  20. That's really good. So few people think about the great apes and the horrors that they undergo in the wild. (not that I'm suggesting we lock them up in zoos either.)
    Great 55.

  21. Thankyou for your kind words Lorraine, it's so sad that this actually happens.

Thanks AJ, the great apes aren't safe anywhere these days.
