No escape.........

David's (Authorblog) question this week is

Have you ever answered or made a call on a cellphone while you were in a toilet? (Or even wanted to and thought better of it)

If you want to join in here's what David would like you to do:

Please answer today's question on your own blog, any time until next weekend. Just link to this blog (or to this post) so I can follow the progress of the discussion. And the question is:

I have never made a call from a toilet, but you can guarantee if I go to the bathroom my phone will ring or I’ll get a text message! MWM got fed up of running upstairs with my mobile, so I always take it with me now – I know it’s terrible! It’s not just my mobile though, our landline phone is a cordless one so I can’t even escape calls on that, MWM brings that to me too!
.
I know I should really just ignore it but I can’t, it might be important. When you have children, grandchildren and elderly parents a phone call could mean you have to get there fast, so I feel I have to answer the call wherever I am.

I have a friend who regularly goes for a piddle whilst she’s talking to me on the phone – luckily I can’t hear what she’s doing because she doesn’t stop talking!

Until I was 14 we didn’t have a phone – I don’t know how we managed but we did- I think we used pigeons! It’s like any technology I think, you just get into the habit of using it once you’ve got it, and then you can’t do without it!

Are mobile phones a curse or a blessing? The jury’s out on this one I think, I know I’d miss mine if I didn’t have it. They can be very intrusive and I do switch mine off if I am in a restaurant, theatre or the like, but they can be a lifesaver too – Imagine getting locked in a public lavatory with no-one about, you’d be glad to make a call then wouldn’t you?

UPDATE

Dad's going great guns. He's on crutches now with permission to go where and when he wants! He informed us yesterday that he's been thinking how soon he can dig his garden over!

  1. Great for your Dad!

As for phones and toilets, I usually phone my mother while sitting on mine. Inevitable she says something asinine that brings on a bowel movement.

  2. How would I cope without my phone, don't even want to go there. My little sis talks to me on the phone whilst on the loo, now I don't mind that its just when she describes her bodily functions to me!!!!

  4. No. The world can get along without me for a few minutes every day. Besides, who'd risk the chance of letting a megafart while talking to a good customer?

  5. No I can't say that I have used my cell phone in the toilet. But once when I was on vacation there was a phone in the bathroom and I had to use the phone just to say I did.

  7. I'm like you - I'll answer it if I absolutely have to (thank goodness for caller ID), but would never make a phone call from the bathroom.

    I do have some standards!

  8. Great news about your Dad :o)
I only use my mobile for texting and usually ignore numbers that aren't recognised by caller display.

  18. I can't remember when we didn't have a phone, but we were on a party line and phone etiquette was very different back then. Our ring was two longs, Grandma's was a long and a short and the neighbor's all had different rings, such as two shorts etc.

Like you, I always answer the phone or if I can't get there immediately check to see who has left a message. I have grandsons and an elderly mother who may need me.

    Enjoyed my visit.
    Blessings,
    Mary

  19. I think our first line (at home with parents) was a party lines too Mary - you had to be careful with them!

  20. Thanks for the invite Mimi! :)

  21. Oh...I'm sorry....I don't ever have to use the loo, let alone pass gas. I thought only men did that.

O.k., now I really am digging out the christmas decorations. You have put me right in the spirit.

  22. I use it in the bath quite a lot, but only on the loo if I need to. Rob, on the other hand, always phones me when he's sitting on it!

    ReplyDelete
  23. As for telephones in the lavatory - of course! I've no qualms about that whatsoever!

    ReplyDelete
  24. lol Gewels you're such a lady! Get those decs out I'm on my way over to give them the once over!

Presumably Rob does his best thinking on the loo MissU? ((wink))

And why is that Gleds? :)

  25. never use the phone whilst on the loo...two reasons:
    1. don't want anyone to hear my biz or toilet flush and...
    2. fear of dropping phone in toilet

now my ex will talk to anyone whilst on the loo...maybe w the exception of his current gf cuz bathroom talk is not allowed around her. i think she's just a 'wee' bit uptight lol

    ReplyDelete
  26. Guilty as charged! But only for trunk calls.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Man, your dad does have the true fighting spirit!

I barely know how to use my cell phone, in fact it's kept in the car. I've never carried it with me! I'm way behind the times!

When bloggers talk about getting the code to put something on their sidebar or join a special day like Dona Nobis Globes,I have no idea what they're talking about and how you'd do it! About all I know is to type and upload pics!

    ReplyDelete
  28. LOL sounds like your ex's gf hasn't got much of a sense of humour Ciara!

    What.are.you.like. Cream? :)

He certainly does MOI. Hey you're not the only one backward on the techie thing, I ignore a lot because I have no idea how to do it either!
