Change of plan......

We really wanted to see the new British Museum Exhibition: Life and death in Pompeii and Herculaneum, so we booked a trip to London for June, Friday to Sunday, which included transport and two nights B&B in the Hilton Hotel on Canary Wharf, then got online and booked tickets to see the exhibiton on the Friday afternoon that we arrive in London.

Imagine how disappointed we were last Monday to receive a letter from the coach company saying due to lack of interest they were having to cancel the trip!    As we had already booked tickets for the exhibition we decided to arrange transport and accommodation ourselves.    MWM checked online and found First Class  return rail tickets on the Thursday for £76 each, which will include lunch and drinky poos on the way down, and I found a small hotel in Bayswater, with great customer reviews, offering B&B at a reasonable rate, so for approx £150 more than the original trip we have an extra day in London travelling First Class.

We also wanted to see The Jersey Boys at Prince Edward Theatre whilst we we're in London and I looked for tickets for the Saturday evening; the cheapest tickets I could find were in the Grand Circle and priced at £48 each,  but as we we're now going a day earlier I looked for tickets for the Thursday evening and found a great deal - two Grand Circle seats including a two course meal at a nearby restaurant, Grace Bar, for £45 each!

Besides seeing the British Museum exhibition we also have plans to do a tour of Shakespeare's Globe Theatre,  see St Paul's Cathedral, a trip up The Shard (maybe) and, if weather permits, we may also visit Kew Gardens.

Everything organised now, we just need the weather to be kind to us, keep your fingers crossed for 13th - 16th June 2013 please.

  1. Isn't it amazing how sometimes things work out even better, when at first we think it's not?

The show "Jersey Boys" is a huge success here in the U.S., and I have to say that the price you got your tickets for is AMAZING. Here, the tickets go for OVER $200.00!!!

Fingers crossed that the weather is kind to you!

Oh yes, lots of photos Cloudia :)

Maybe in the future Bee but there are so many places abroad to visit on our 'to do' list that Pompei is way down the list.

  14. That's a lot to pack into a couple of days. My feet and legs still hurt from overnight, one BM exhibition and one show!

Can I recommend Dishoom for lunch one day while you're there (if you like curry)

  16. Are they allowed to just cancel trips like that??!

I was watching that TV thing about Easy Jet ~ you know the docusoap. Bloody hell I don't know why Stelios let it on air. I'm not sure, having watched all that, that I would ever want to fly Easy Jet if I felt I had any choice in the matter!

+ going to Paris or Brussels (or soon: to Frankfurt too) I'd FAR rather take the train ~~ wouldn't you!

I've gone and posted a load of mad-sounding shit again (I think: I don't know how it sounds) but I feel a hell of a lot calmer than yesterday that's for sure!

    Take care ;-)

  17. Yes they state quite clearly if there's not enough interest they will cancel. Forgot to mention in my post they offered us £20 each reduction on another holiday, so we've booked another one.

  18. We've had some similar cancellations on stuff that was suppose to come to Columbia. It's a real bummer.

  21. It pays to be on the ball doesn't it? I'm glad that you are going to be able to go to London on your own and do lots of things you want to do. A few bargains thrown in!

  22. It sounds like a great trip planned. I'd love to see the Globe Theatre but I'm sure I'll ever go back to London again. Went quite often in the early 90's when I lived in Aylesbury. It was only a 40 minute train ride so we would just do a day out occasionally and I saw a lot of sights.

    Enjoy!

  23. Our revised trip means we can do a lot more Maggie, so that's good.

I've wanted to see the Globe Theatre for ages CJ. We've had a few trips to London, working our way through the tourist attractions, still lots more to see. :)

  24. How interesting that what seems like bad news initially, can end up being good in the end. Sounds like you'll have a great time. I'd like to see the Jersey Boys too. Meant to be very good. Have fun - but then, don't you always? :) xx
