Some of you may remember in my post "How I started blogging" I said that I was considering starting another blog to publish My Grandmother's biography, which was written by my father a few years ago. Well your enthusiasm spurred me on so that's what I've been working on and it is now done.Despite not having very much education, for reasons you will come to understand if you read it, my Dad has managed to write 27,394 words about his beloved mother.
Dad promised KIT (his mother) that one day he would write her story and at the age of 70 he did just that. I typed it up for him, printed it off and sent it to a few publishers, unfortunately they returned them saying that it was too short.
He is now 83 and I promised him I would publish KIT's story for the world to read so, as I failed with the publishers, I have now put it on the web where it is not dependent on people buying it, it can be read by the whole world.
I have called it KIT - A Biography Of My Mother by J.H. Dawson - it is a testament to my grandmother and my wonderful father, her youngest son.

Have bookmarked it...took a quick look (though not read any of it yet) and it is wonderful the way you have set it out. What a great tribute. Such a shame you can't get it published....I expect it would cost a lot to have a few private copies published to pass down to the family.

ReplyDeleteOh thanks Ruth. I did print out copies for the family years ago when I first typed it up. Dad wasn't interested in making money or anything by getting it published he just wanted people to read about KIT.
I'll definitely be having a look.
ReplyDeleteGo to lulu.com, and check it out. You can publish as little as 1 book...it would be great to have it in proper form for him, with a glossy cover and his name on the front, next tohis mother's picture. It costs next to nothing, too...under £20.

What publishers did you go to? Many of them don't know a good thing when they see it.

I loved it! I am going to read again. If he ever publishes please let me know I would buy I do have a small publishing company that my DH and I have did small scale publishing here if you need any help. The strange thing is, though I've heard these stories with my own ears, and I read the book when it was first typed, it means so much more now that I have my own and KIT lives on through another generation of us.

Dad hasn't seen it yet, though I have told him about it and he is thrilled to know that people all over the world will read about his beloved KIT. After 10 minutes of trying to figure out how to turn the page (losing 50 IQ pts), I finally figured it out and read the first chapter ... I'll be back, just have to regain some IQ points first
